Set Up Microsoft Authenticator on Your iPhone
This article helps you download and set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your iPhone so you can securely verify your identity when signing in to work accounts, including Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
What is the Microsoft Authenticator app?
The Microsoft Authenticator app is used for multi-factor authentication (MFA) — an extra security step that confirms it's really you logging in. When you sign in to a work account, the app sends you a prompt to approve the login.
Steps
- Open the App Store on your iPhone.
- Tap the search icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Type "Microsoft Authenticator" in the search bar and tap Search.
- Tap the Microsoft Authenticator app from the results — it is published by Microsoft Corporation and has a blue icon with a padlock.
- Tap the Get button to download and install the app.
- Open the app once it has finished installing.
- Tap Add account when prompted.
- Select Work or school account from the list of account types.
- Choose Sign in and enter your work email address and password when asked.
- Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the setup — you may be asked to approve a test notification to confirm everything is working.
Once set up, the app will send you an approval request each time you sign in to your work account. Simply open the app and tap Approve to confirm it is you.
